The BAVM scholarship program is designed to support veterinary schools and veterinary technician programs and their students. Each year BAVM will award a scholarship to each one outstanding student enrolled in veterinary school and a veterinary technician program. This award will be presented to an individual who has been an active member of their community, providing leadership and contributing to the overall betterment of the Veterinary Medical Profession. The recipient of this award will receive $1000 award to be used to further their educational endeavors and pursuit of licensure.
Preference will be given to students with:
- Plans to return to the Western New York area following completion of their degree.
- Historical participation in professional development and continuing education
- Historical community Service
- Special Achievements
Requirements
- Currently enrolled (or enrolled to begin) in an American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education/ American Veterinary Medical Association Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities accredited school.
- Western New York native (based on education, employment history or other proof of residency)
- CV/Resume (including name, address, email, phone number, leadership positions held, participation in professional development and continuing education, community service & other special achievements.
- Copy of educational transcript
- One letter of recommendation. Must be from a BAVM member veterinarian.
In addition to the above criteria, students must submit a 200–500-word essay that addresses the topics below:
- Why is it important to you to be a member of the veterinary medical profession?
- How has the Western New York veterinary community has helped support you in your path to your intended career?
The application window opens in January of every year. All applications are due by March of every year. The BAVM Executive Board will review all nominations and a majority vote will determine the winners. The recipient of the BAVM Student Scholarships will be announced at the final (May) lecture.

- *Students may self-nominate, or be nominated by a peer, professor, etc., but a personal essay from the nominee must be included along with the submission.
